A little about me...
A first generation Canadian born in Scarborough, Ontario, the middle child and only girl of two Trinidadians,
Starr is a multi-hyphenate artist, scholar and educator, with 20+ years on stages and screens across the Caribbean, the United States, Europe and Canada.
Selected credits consist of; having been an original Toronto company member of Hairspray, the stage musical, and a primary dance cast member of the feature film of the same name which starred Zac Efron, Queen Latifah, Michelle Pfeiffer and John Travolta; multiple productions of Ain’t Misbehavin’ including the 30th Anniversary Broadway National Tour which starred American Idols, Ruben Studdard and Frenchie Davis; and years performing at Canada’s two major repertory companies, the prestigious Shaw Festival and the world famous Stratford Festival, where you may have recently seen her as Jacqueline in La Cage Aux Folles and Bea in the 2024 season's critically acclaimed production of Something Rotten!. A graduate of Sheridan College's esteemed Musical Theatre Performance program, Starr also achieved her Masters in Theatre while simultaneously performing in the musicals Room and Dixon Road for Mirvish Productions and The Musical Stage Company, respectively. She followed that up with an award nominated role in The Musical Stage Company’s Retold and was in The Crow’s Theatre’s Dora award winning production of Red Velvet.
Among other things, you may have also seen Starr as Valerie in the feature film, A Change In Heart, as Marly in Canada's beloved hit series, Hudson & Rex, as a 4 Tone on 4 Square or as The Puppy Master on the award-winning children's show Odd Squad.
On the other side of the creative process, Starr has been a choreographer (Szeged Open Air Festival production of Porgy and Bess), and a resident director (European tour of Ain’t Misbehavin’). She is the creator/producer and host of the digital talk show, The Blacktor’s Studio: an online interview series highlighting the journey of actors of Colour who grace the Canadian stage as well as having written an original one woman musical style cabaret show entitled I’m the Greatest Starr... (but no one knows it) which focuses on her musical theatre career in Canada.
Starr is grateful to be able to share these experiences and her expertise with the many students she educates, whether that be through private coaching or in the classroom.
